We are thrilled to share the success of the Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance Hui, held as part of Road Safety Week 2024! The event brought together an incredible group of road safety supporters, businesses, councils, and government officials, all committed to making our roads safer. Based around the theme of the Safe System, we collectively shared the work we were doing across all four pillars and how each was contributing to reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads.
Event Highlights:
Roads and Roadsides: Insightful presentations by Lloyd de Beer and Marcus Brown from Beca showcased the positive impacts of recent infrastructure projects on creating safer roads and roadsides.
Speed: Auckland Transport’s session, presented by Ping Sim, revealed impressive results from their safe speeds programme, highlighting the outcomes from their monitoring and evaluation efforts.
Advancements in Vehicle Safety: Lisa Kleinheinz from Toyota New Zealand Limited demonstrated how innovative vehicle safety technologies are playing a crucial role in reducing accidents and saving lives.
Road Users: Brooke O’Donnell from Road Safety Education Limited presented compelling findings on the effectiveness of road safety education, highlighting best practices to change road user behaviour.
We were also honoured to present the annual Road Safety Hero Award to Senior Constable Ken Terry for his dedication and contributions to road safety. His efforts have significantly improved road safety in the North Canterbury Community. Congratulations, Senior Constable Terry!
The hui concluded with a wonderful networking session with refreshments, where meaningful connections were made. The evening ended with a walk to the Auckland Harbour Bridge to see Vector Lights, which were beautifully lit in yellow for Road Safety Week. The photo call with the illuminated bridge provided a stunning backdrop, capturing the spirit of our collective commitment to road safety.
