Support Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance

Road Safety Week 2024

20 – 26 May, 2024

The goal of the Yellow Ribbon Road Safety Alliance is to draw attention to road safety in NZ

Through symbolism that includes wearing a yellow ribbon and the lighting up of icons, buildings and bridges, especially during Road Safety Week, but also throughout the year to raise awareness, conversation and positive action about one of the biggest killers in our country.

In 2023,  341 people died on our roads and approximately ten times that number were seriously injured.  While road deaths have decreased over the last 10 years more needs to be done.  Every life affected by road trauma impacts many others in our communities including friends, families and work places.

Partners and members of the Alliance represent informed and concerned companies and citizens committed to road safety who, by raising awareness through the symbolism of yellow and the yellow ribbon, are seeking to contribute to the urgent need to reduce these statistics. We recognise that road safety is everyone’s responsibility and we all can take action towards reducing the risks for all road users on our transport systems.

We welcome people to join as Friends of the Alliance and get involved not only in Road Safety Week each year but plan and run events in your workplaces, communities and whanau through out the year to affect positive change.
